PENSHURST PARISH COUNCIL
GATWICK SECOND RUNWAY CONSULTATION
The latest and yet another consultation for Gatwick Airport’s proposed second runway will run from 4th April until 16th May. We do not yet have the full details but it appears to be a PA exercise on not if but when the Airports Commission decide in favour of Gatwick Airport which of the three runway options would we all prefer. Apart from this being a cynical exercise to further lobby the Airports Commission with the information before it reports to the Government next year as far as I was aware the Airports Commission is only evaluating Gatwick’s third option. Of course respondees to any of the suggested runways will be placed in the supporters box unless they have an opportunity to bluntly say they are not in favour of a second runway. The options on which Gatwick is consulting on for a new 3.4 km runway are:
Option 1 – a new runway 585m south of the existing runway with one runway used for landings and the other used for take-offs.
Option 2 – a new runway 1,045m south of the existing runway with one runway used for landings and the other used for take-offs, and a new terminal between the runways.
Option 3 – a new runway 1,045m south of the existing runway with both runways used for landings and take-offs, and a new terminal between the runways.
Public consultations will be held in Crawley, Rusper, Smallfield, Ifield, Lingfield, Horsham, Crowborough, East Grinstead, Reigate, Crawley Down, Horley, Charlwood, Dorking, Edenbridge, Felbridge, Epsom.
